Student Senate Meeting
September 28, 2004

Reading of the previous minutes: Motioned to approve minutes from
Sep. 21st, seconded, approved
Special Guest: none this week
Executive Board Reports:
President: Welcomed visitors to Student Senate. Reported on
attendance of Retreat. Retreat was a success. Attendance is going to
be strictly followed and must be followed. It will increase representation,
image, professionalism, credibility. Three people are up for review
based on attendance.
Vice President of Programming: October schedule: there will be
a reminder of events every week. House meeting on the 11th (Monday)
@ 9:30pm in SU 203 it will be about 45 minutes. 19th there will be a
dating game, 27th movie (will air the dating game's highlights), 21st
is safety street-Thursday night blow-out, 6:00pm to midnight. Organizations
must bring 4 bags of candy to participate. 22nd will the Safety Street
Event. Must also email Rachel Wade. Senate will be doing the games in
the ballroom
Vice President of Finance: First meeting for SENSOG will be on
October 7th (Thursday) it will be held every first Thursday of each
month…Nov. 4th, Dec.2nd (tent.) There are flyers that are going to be
put out. Meetings will be held in SU 203.
Budgets:
- Senate: Unknown
- SENSOG: 24,000
- SPB: Unknown
Vice President of Public Relations: next meeting is 9:00pm in
QC. Special guest- Anika Summers from Reslife will be the special guest
for Oct. 5th meeting. Website review: Senators Vandaputte, and Nowak
will help out with that.
Vice President of Mission and Values: went over Mission from
Retreat: THE UNIVESITY OF DETROIT MERCY STUDENT SENATE WILL STRIVE TO
MAXIMIZED SUPPORT FROM ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY IN AN EFFORT TO CARRY
OUT THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENT BODY. Also encourages ALL senators to internalize
this mission. Also discussed meeting with Jesuits and Mercy sisters
Secretary: handed out packets and must be turned in next week
or else it will count as an unexcused absence. Public safety letter
in progress.
College Representatives Reports:
- Education: try to meet with contact person in person and email.
- Business: Suggested for future use that for business associate dean
is the one he will be working with.
- Biology: Friday afternoon will be board game tournaments, with prized
and will encompass all study groups as well. APD will be having a
BBQ at 12:45 in front of chem. On Thursday
- Architecture: student advisory, has talked to dean and the council
to help reinstate the study abroad trips that have been cut from the
program.
- Next week: minority
Committee Reports:
- Leadership Conference: Committee Members are Senator Rence, Senator
Wade and Senator Vandaputte. Talking to see where it will be held,
will know supplies and food when organizations sign-up. Registration
is online and organizations must be done online.
- Safety Street: Senator Rence will be chair; will help set up games
New Business:
- Introduction of visitors
- Safety Street: SPB Annual Events Chair proposed that senate help
with the ballroom portion of the event. Funds will be provided but
SPB will need volunteers to run it. A motion to vote on participating
and organizing safety street was seconded and then approved.
- Office is now available sign up to help clean it up.
- Logo: three ideas were presented was tabled for new ideas and will
be voted on next meeting
Old Business:
- Shared Governance: times of meetings will soon be sent
- Retreat: Changed to Sunday September 26th at 10:00 am in the Fountain
Lounge. An Email reminder will be sent.
- Grounds: Committee was formed with Rachel Wade as chair…petition
has been made
- Pictures: Pictures will be taken this week and next week.
- Library: ongoing and is a "big feat".
- Letter to Jesuits for NJSLC: shared and approved to send
